Today was a good day. We bought the last of the fresh food and a few luxuries, finished installing the self steering and finally contacted Customs to clear us. We had to provide all our details and hopefully we will be cleared out tomorrow afternoon and be on our way.
Customs do their clearing from Gateway Marina and we have a berth there for 24 hours if necessary. After we get the go ahead we will stay there till we are cleared.
The weather pattern is good with W.S.W. to E.S.E winds 10 to 20 knots so we should have a good run. Our course takes us from Caloundra past Fraser Island, about ten to twenty nautical miles off, and continuing North till we pass between the outer Barrier Reef and Saumarez Reef. This is the most critical part of the trip. Once clear we have an uninterrupted passage to the outer barrier of the Louisiades where we hope to pass through either the Jomard Entrance or the Duchateau passage. That is a passage of just under1,000 nautical miles. Once inside the Barrier we are relatively protected.
Lets hope that tomorrow brings more good news.
