Freshwater bay Toward Island Head

16/07/2010
Late start as we only had a few miles to travel to get to Island Head. Headsails only and again a slow passage and entered Island Head for what was to be a protracted stay. This anchorage is safe in almost any conditions up to and including cyclone conditions. Boats already there included John and Judy off "2 Jays" Claudia off "One Day" and several other monohulls and Catamarans.
The next 12 days were spent catching fish, eating oysters ,having beach bar b q's and generally chilling out. No radio, tv, computer. Caught several good fish including a reasonable haul of bream from a small mangrove creek. Sandflies were a problem here but Craig ,Yabbie and I were having a ball catching bream in a few feet of water, out of the wind. Gave most of the fish to the crew of" Mary Mathieson" and "Argo". Another fishing day saw me catch a few large stripey's and a nice Coral Trout. The oysters were of a huge size if you searched for them and each one was a mini meal, none made it back to the boat for Oysters Kilpatrick. Various boats came and went including Bill and Shirley off "Toy Room". The weather reports finally moderated and the decision was made to head for Hexham Island.
