The wind has died down after a day and a half of strong South Westerlies which blow directly into this bay. All of the boats were gone by 0800 hours yesterday morning leaving just "Zenataos" lying at anchor. Because of the length and beam of "Zen" I am very raely bothered by small swells when at anchor and at no time did the swell get uncomfortable. I had only partly repaired and straightened the steering arm so was reluctant to up anchor and go over to the other side of the island using just the motors for steering, o.k. in close quarters but a bit of a pain on a long run.
Although windy ,yesterday was sunny and I finished strengthening the steering arm and had time to do a bit of reading and catch a few fish. I caught two remora, a curious looking fish with a flat head and a raspy serrated "pad" which allows them to attach to larger fish or passing boats and hitch a ride. I forgot to get a photo of them for the blog being more concerned to free them unharmed, they are slimy to the touch, very similar to a catfish. Cooked a fantastic sausage and veggie stew in the dreampot and it was yum yum pigs bum.
Fitted the straightened , strengthened, and reinforced steering arm this morning and , at last, "Zen" is up and running with all systems working. I hope to have a trial sail over to the Marina in the next day or so to test everything and go ashore and get some fresh water, veggies and fruit. I may be able to do my washing while there as well. I have ony used about 80 litres of water since coming out here.
I'm sitting here feeling pretty good about the world, listening to a mixed tape made for me by David from "Kal", fast becoming one of my favourites. Because of the quirky, eclectic mix of music on the c.d. with the occasional "clunker" thrown in just to keep me on my toes I am beginning to consider that David is a "ratbag , along with Lance of "Galadriel". Before anyone gets their back up let me assure you that since being described as a ratbag by Ralph Mciver with an accompanying article on ratbagism I consider it to be an honour to be described thusly.
Just got a phone call from Yabbie, he and Craig are at Bundaberg and on their way up here in a day or so. Fair wind and calm seas guys and look forward to catching up.
